Pentair, the “Big 3” manufacturer based in Sanford, N.C., purchased in-floor pool cleaner producer A&A Manufacturing in early April.

This adds a new product category to Pentair’s offerings. A&A also makes purification systems and waterfeatures.

“In alignment with our strategies to continue to build our residential and commercial aquatics portfolio, the addition of A&A Manufacturing provides our customers greater access to our innovative solutions and comprehensive product portfolio offering,” said De’Mon Wiggins, vice president of Pentair Pool.

A&A General Manager Don McChesney will continue to head the business. Operations are expected to remain in Arizona, with the same staff.

A&A was founded in 1982 by Bob and Skip Ast, the brothers who also started the Phoenix-area building behemoth Shasta Pools.

This is the last of three in-floor cleaner makers birthed in the Phoenix metropolitan area in the 1970s and 1980s to be sold to a Big 3 company. In 2004, Caretaker Systems sold to Polaris Pool Systems (now Fluidra). In 2018, Hayward Industries purchased Paramount Pool Systems from the Ghiz family, which also owned the former Phoenix-area builder/retailer Paddock Pools.
