Built in 2013, the Schifferdecker Aquatic Center was designed to bring the community of Joplin, Mo., together, to upgrade citizens’ quality of life and attract new residents after the tragic tornado that struck in 2011. To reinforce the entire community’s involvement with the project, designers included features for every age group. Small children are introduced to water via the interactive play structure and spraypark, while slides, a climbing wall and log roll provide adventure for older visitors. The 25- and 50-meter lap pools cater to Joplin’s active competitive swim community. The large pool boasts several features that allow it to remain in use at all times. All told, 16 recreational play activities are included among the pools and wet deck areas.
