Leland Yarger

Aquatics’ most influential people of the past 25 years.

His title — coordinator of aquatics and instructor of physical science at Ball State University — would barely fit on a business card, but that seems appropriate for Leland Yarger, who oversees the school’s aquatics degree program.

He got his start as a Marine training other Marines and sailors how to swim; today he teaches undergrads what they need to know to design, manage and operate an aquatics facility.

Ball State offers a well-respected major in aquatics and three minors, along with several certifications. Each year, Yarger advises 80 to 120 students on their coursework and future aquatics careers.
