Efforts began late last year to fix inconsistencies between model codes produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals. To build the foundation for ongoing collaboration, the organizations established a permanent committee.
The MAHC/ISPSC Standing Committee comprises members from APSP and the Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code, with one co-chair from each. APSP Technical Chairman Steve Barnes holds that title, as does CMAHC Executive Director Douglas Sackett.
The committee is meant to identify inconsistencies between the two codes, come to agreement on a solution, then propose these solutions during the voting cycles of each code.
Both codes are voluntarily, meaning they only take effect in states and other jurisdictions that adopt them.
