The 18,000-square-foot outdoor space includes a leisure pool with lazy river, two water slides for different age groups, water sprays and a zero-entry wading pool. The venue was created to support learn-to-swim programs, aquatic therapy sessions and aquatic exercise, as well as competitive and recreational swimming by high schools and swim clubs. Outdoor lockers and Wi-Fi add convenience. Early on, the designers worked closely with the county to set specific programming goals, to save the time and money needed for change orders and re-evaluations during construction.

The C.V. Starr facility provides recreational service to the surrounding coastal community as well as vital learn-to-swim programming. Operators collaborate with businesses and other agencies to offer water safety programs and classes. Examples of this collaboration include working with

the local dive center to teach kayak and scuba skills and collaborating with school districts to offer swim lessons to students. The center also hosts many events throughout the year,encouraging widespread community involvement. The flexibility of the pool design has allowed incorporation of suggestions from the

patrons and community, resulting in the addition of programs such as an arthritis water exercise class and a class for expectant mothers.
